Charlotte's mom, Emma, reached out to me several months prior to her due date to let me know she and her husband were expecting their first baby. Expecting your first baby comes with so much excitement! Well, expecting any baby, whether it's your first or 5th baby is always so exciting! I remember how excited I was each time I found out I was pregnant with each one of my children. Whenever I hear it's a clients first child, it takes me back to everything going through my own head when I was pregnant with my first child.

A few months had gone by and I knew we were coming up close to Emma's due date with Charlotte. Emma ran through my mind quite frequently because I knew any day she would be contacting me with the news of Charlottes arrival. Her expected due date was 11/20/20, but Charlotte made her grand entrance on 11/30/20. She just wanted to give her mom and dad some extra time to prepare. ;-)

We scheduled Charlotte's newborn session for December 13th. I had asked Emma, like I do with all of newborn session clients, what colors she had preferred for Charlotte's session. I sent her a few inspiration images from past sessions I've done, just to give her an idea, and she responded with saying she loves the look of neutrals, but also enjoys Christmas colors. So we planned on just that! I set out a few neutral themed sets, as well as Christmas sets, and boy am I obsessed with Charlotte's whole session!

When they first arrived, Charlotte was wide awake, which is totally ok! We just took that opportunity to grab a few awake shots of her. I always enjoy being able to get images of newborns with their eyes open and looking around. It makes for some really sweet images! The first set I put Charlotte on was my snowman, or in this case, snowgirl, set. Emma helped me get Charlotte into this adorable little fuzzy snowman suite with a top hat bonnet. She was wide awake and pretty much looking at me with this expression of "What are you doing to me, lady?" Charlotte's dad, Dave, had ran out to grab Emma some coffee before we got started, so when he walked back into the studio, he walked in to Charlotte as a little snowman. The look on his face was priceless! Here are a few images from that sweet little set. That little sneeze was so so cute!

I kind of switch from Christmas set to neutral sets throughout Charlotte's session. The next set I chose for Charlotte was a neutral/boho themed set. She again started off wide awake, but totally content! She just watched me as I photographed her until she eventually dozed right off into a little sleep. I even captured a sweet little dreamy smile! Towards the end of these sets, she woke up and went back to wondering what on earth I was doing.

Her next set was a mixture of neutral, but I threw in a tiny bit of holiday, by putting this adorable deer tieback headband on her head for a few shots. This pose is called the potato pose because baby's are wrapped up in this cute little round ball. It's one of my favorite poses for babies! She again even gave me a sweet little smile! <3

Her next set was probably one of my favorite sets from her session! I love everything Christmas, so when I thought of this set up for her, I just knew I had to make it happen. I mean, just look how perfect and sweet she is in this little honey pot surrounded by Christmas trees and snow! Mom and dad were over my shoulder letting out squeals of excitement over how adorable Charlotte looked on this set.

Her last set wasn't totally Christmas themed, but the merlot color was so amazing against her skin tone that I just had to photograph her on this color. I added a Christmas garland in the shape of a heart around her and it was so perfect! She was wide awake for this set, which was the perfect opportunity for me to take portraits of her in what I call "baby mug shots" because she was giving me the best facial expressions!

We ended Charlotte's newborn session with family portraits and mom and dad are just totally smitten with their perfect baby girl. How could they not be? She absolutely perfect in every way! She also wanted to make sure she was wide awake for the family shots. She did not want to miss out on those! :)

This family is so beautiful and they were a complete joy to work with! I'm always so honored to be able to capture these special memories for all of my clients. It's amazing how quickly our little ones change and grow. To be able to have these images and these memories to look back on for years to come is really so special. I'm so glad to have met Emma, Dave and Charlotte, and I truly hope to be able to capture more special memories for them in the years to come. <3
